experiencing movement as poetry

flow space

flow space is an hourlong movement practice for creatives, curious souls, and anyone looking for more freedom in their bodies.

With the intention to practice imagination with the whole body (and not just the mind), together we travel through a landscape of images, ideas, rhythms, and melodies—a sort of kinetic synesthesia, where creative mind and sensing body come together as one.

The practice is like writing a living poem, one that we experience with all our senses, and discover as we go.

The mood of the space is curious and playful, and the values are grounded in a kind and expansive vision of what dance is, and who it can be for.

The only requirement is curiosity! All are welcome.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

We don’t plan beforehand what will happen in class, but we always begin with a simple meditation to arrive in the space and tune into our senses, followed by a gently facilitated, open-ended flow with music, imagery, and poetry.  We end the practice with a period of rest and breathing, followed by an open space for reflection (drawing, verbal sharing), snacks, and just hanging out.

Creativity — catharsis — connection

Testimonials

“As adults under capitalism we aren’t afforded many places to experiment or look silly or fully express ourselves in public, and Flow Space provided a space for all those things.”

“I felt joy in putting aside self-judgement and my inner critic and learning to let my body explore different ways of moving and feeling.”

“I thought I needed to be taught ‘how’ to dance. But you taught me, simply, to dance.”

“You broke down power structures normally maintained within dance spaces by setting norms at the beginning and dancing alongside us…it felt like a community sharing in an experience together (in) a non judgmental environment.”

“This made me feel like a kid again.”
